Hyperemesis gravidarum (HG) is a rare but severe form of morning sickness, usually occurring in the first trimester of pregnancy. Symptoms such as intractable nausea, vomiting, and dehydration are common and if not properly treated can lead to malnutrition, fluid or electrolyte imbalances and other complications. It can be difficult to distinguish between HG and other typical morning sickness, so it’s important to check with your doctor if mom is unable to keep down simple fluids and nausea medications.

On the video below Dr. Wendy Parnell discusses the hyperemesis gravidarum, its symptoms and possible treatments. Be sure to share this with your family and friends, especially expecting mom. At Carlos and Parnell, M.D., P.A. our professional and caring staff makes the difference with patient care.
